I was always rather grateful to not have a brother. My reasons were mostly surface level, mainly centering around that I thought they’d be loud and smelly. As I’ve grown I’ve admitted to myself the deeper reason for my gratitude: I don’t want to see the difference in how my parents would treat him in comparison to my sister and me.
